Lesson 5

Today we talked more about the Two Sisters - and what it means to live under a reminder of the power of forgiveness. We discussed valuing the knowledge of all members of society, women and children specifically, and how that might change a society.

(students who missed yesterday are writing their values/notes about stories they wish to embody, and will pop them in envelopes for safekeeping tomorrow)

We also talked about our common humanity - and how the idea that we have more in common than not is in direct opposition to many of the narratives circulating on social media.

Students listened to "Imiqtaq" by Riit - we discussed the sounds in the music, the childlike nature of the song itself - the ways in which music and childhood are universal...

"All that we are is story. From the moment we are born to the time we continue on our spirit journey, we are involved in the creation of the story of our time here...What comes to matter then is the creation of the best possible story we can while we're here; you, me, us, together. When we can do that and we take the time to share those stories with each other, we get bigger inside, we see each other, we recognize our kinship - we change the world, one story at a time." - Richard Wagamese
In an effort to Indigenize and broaden social media feeds, I provided students with the following (also on Teams) and went through some of the content:
