Lesson 84

Anyone who handed in all work on time has now received all of those pieces of work.

Students ate Timbits, and enjoyed a new piece of media (Disney's Echo) that employs many of the themes we looked at through the course.

We began final assessment meetings, and will continue today's work over the next two classes.

Lesson 83

Students compiled all final work - selected the necessary final work from their folders for polishing - and handed in a final self-assessment for their lit circle work, and of lit circles generally. These complete packages, along with an assessment rubric for the final project, must be handed in, in person.

Those students who did not attend today's class should, most certainly, attend tomorrow's, and be in tutorial first thing on Thursday morning.

Lesson 82

Students had their final lit circle discussion today.

Tomorrow, students will hand in their final timed write and discussion package, with a lit circle reflection - this is the very laaaaasst puzzle piece.

A few students did not hand in a final self-evaluation for their final assignments, and missed Friday's deadline. As a result, those pieces of work may not ultimately be assessed. Any student who did not meet expectations should be checking in, in person, during tutorial time.

Lesson 81

Students handed in their final project rubrics in person, and submitted the projects via TEAMS.

**NB - The work of any students who did not attend today's class, nor hand in the work+rubric, may not receive feedback on said work. Furthermore, the work of those who submitted it in a timely fashion will be prioritized for assessment and return. This means that some students may need to attend Review and Completion for their final assessment meetings.

 Happy Grad Banquet!!!!

Lesson 80

Today's class was one for working on the final projects, WHICH ARE DUE TOMORROW.

Students were able to check in - get reassurance that they are on the right track - and get some guidance from peers for software/production options.

Lesson 79

Students did their 3rd in-class write today, and handed in their 3rd question set.

Those who have incomplete work are expected to attend tutorial Thursday/Friday this week.

FINAL ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY  - weeks' of notice having been given, it is expected that every student get this work in for the deadline.

Lesson 78

It was a pleasure to see students in all their post-grad glory this morning :)

We had treats and a brief chat, before students received their third question set and moved into their lit circle groups to work.

Tomorrow is timed write #3!

Lesson 77

 Congratulations graduands!!!

We spent today going through folders - doing the first parts of the "Final Self-assessment" sheet, so that students can continue as they receive work, and be prepared for next week's meetings.

Tomorrow - Discussion #3

Wednesday - In-class write #3

Friday - Final project due (online submission through Teams - rubric coming in, in hard copy)

Have a wonderful night!

Lesson 76

Today's class ran exactly as outlined in yesterday's post.

Students also heard an excellent essay read aloud - hopefully this helped them to situate their own work in relation to grade-level expectations.

Next week, we will continue lit-circle work. On Monday, students will begin to build their final self-assessments, and by the time their final projects are submitted on Friday, the 14th, there will only be one piece of coursework yet to submit.

Thursday, June 6, 2024

Lesson 75

Students did a full, in-class write today - those present were very focused.

Those who were not present should note that extra practice writing under pressure will make their work better, and give them more work to choose from at the final selection.

Tomorrow, students will hand in HARD COPIES of their annotated bibliographies at the beginning of class. We will then go over the work that has been completed thus far, and what is yet to come.

The sun is shining - but stay the course!

Lessons 73 & 74

Yesterday, students finished up their research presentations.

Today, lit circle groups worked through their second set of discussion questions. These questions will be handed in tomorrow, after the second in-class write.

Stay focused! There are only a few weeks left, but those weeks are full of work and fun!

Students who are behind are reminded that the end of term is fast approaching. Any overdue work not received by the end of tutorial on Thursday, June 13th will receive minimal feedback, will not be assessed until all other assessments have been returned, and may result in required attendance for Review and Completion.

Lesson 72

Lit Circle presentations spanned today's block, and are scheduled to go into tomorrow's class time.

Along with the written/rubric feedback for presenters, peers were asked to  consider offering real-time feedback on the following:

  • Does it sound like they are using their own voice? Does the vocabulary sound authentic to the presenter, and as though they understand the words they are using?
  • Are they writing citations correctly?
  • Are they capitalizing "Indigenous"? Using appropriate language?
  • Have they fallen into any of the stereotyping we discussed earlier in the year? Help them out.
  • Are there any sources/connections you might offer to help them with their ongoing work?
